Quinine.2HCl 600 mg - Hydrochloric Acid - Water for injection q.s. ad 2 ml.

Quinine dihydrochloride  Injection is a clear solution for injection.

It is available in the following strength and pack size: 600mg/2ml, 100 x 2 ml ampoules.

What quinine dihydrochloride Injection is used for

Quinine dihydrochloride  Injection is used to treat uncomplicated malaria attacks caused by Plasmodium falciparum.  

How does quinine dihydrochloride Injection work?

Quinine dihydrochloride Injection works by destroying the asexual forms of Plasmodium falciparum when they are inside the red blood cells (RBC).

How  Quinine dihydrochloride Injection is given

Quinine dihydrochloride Injection can be given in two ways:

1.      as a slow injection into a vein

2.      as a deep injection into a large muscle

Quinine dihydrochloride Injection must only be given by a doctor or nurse. 

Side Effects

It may have unwanted side-effects in a few people. All medicines can have side effects. Sometimes they are serious, most of the time they are not.

Some side-effects are: coetaneous flushing, itching, rash  fever, facial oedema, dyspnoea, tinnitus, disturbed vision, headache, nausea, disturbed hearing, dizziness, sweating, restlessness, confusion, syncope, apprehension, heart troubles, hypotension.

Some people may get other side effects while being given Quinine dihydrochloride Injection.

Storage

Quinine dihydrochloride, 600mg/2ml  Injection should be stored  in a place where the temperature stays below 25 Cº, and protected from light.
